Netscape 8.1.2 problem
(too old to reply)

I am using Windows 2000 version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4.

I downloaded the nsb-install-8-1-2.exe installation file for Netscape
8.1.2 and the installation procedure seemed to go o.k. I opted not to
import any bookmarks from anywhere.

When I try to run the new installation, it comes up but with an
immediate error message "Netscape.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log

is being created."

After several repeated attempts, I re-booted and tried again. This
time I got the same error message, but with an overlayed message "Dr.
Watson was unable to attach to the process. It is possible that the
process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it. Windows 200
returned error codxe=87. The parameter is incorrect."

I have tried un-installing it, deleting the Netscape Browser folder
from the Program Files folder, and then re-installing it, but still the
same message!

Can some one help please?

A note to all who post on groups on the netscape.public hierarchy.

These groups are abandoned Netscape/Mozilla developer groups. They were
propagated to Usenet in order to make it easier for developers to access.

However, end user questions clogged the groups, making them useless for
developer discussions.

The problem was solved by creating the new news.mozilla.org server. On
that server, groups under the mozilla.support hierarchy are for user
questions, and those under the mozilla.dev hierarchy are for developer
discussion.

User questions will get far more attention in the support groups then
here. Some of us still look in these groups, but someday, someone will
pull the plug on the server.

Posting here is actually less likely to get attention then alt.netscape,
though you never know.

Note my post in alt.netscape, and Heavens recommendation of:

snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/netscape.netscape8.windows

You can also find NS8 forums on www.ufaq.org, and st netscape.com:

I was finally able to get Netscape 8.1.2 running o.k., after closing
all other applications and disabling Norton Internet Security during
the installation process!
